Sedation Dentistry — Is this for you?

Are you one of the large number of people who avoid going to the dentist because of fear?
Our office is excited to offer different levels of Sedation Dentistry for our patients.

One Option is “Nitrous Oxide,” also known as “laughing gas”. Dentists find nitrous oxide especially useful for fearful patients as well as young children. The effect of nitrous oxide is often remarkable. A patient that was anxious just a minute or two before treatment will become relaxed and calm. After the gas is adjusted to the appropriate dose and the patient is relaxed and sedated. After the treatment is completed, the patient is given pure oxygen to breathe for about five minutes, and all the effects of sedation are usually reversed. The patient can almost always leave the office by themselves, without an escort.
Another option is “Conscious Oral Sedation.” This is typically Valium, Halcion or another similar sedative. The patient typically will take one pill the night before the appointment, and another pill is taken about an hour before the appointment. Patients would not be able to drive themselves to and from their appointment.

A final Option is “IV Sedation.” IV sedation is perfect for patients that have a high level of dental anxiety. This service is provided by a Licensed Anesthesiologist so that Dr. Lachot and Dr. Loo can focus on providing excellent dental care. This process produces partial or even full memory loss (amnesia of the dental experience) in the patient. This works really well for both the dentist and the patient. As the patient, you won’t be bothered in the least by any poking or prodding and you’ll remember virtually nothing!
The patient would require an escort and would need to be driven to and from their dental appointments.
