Periodontal Therapy

As the first step in Periodontal Therapy, a fiberoptic probe is used to measure the depth of the pockets around affected teeth. When they're deeper than normal, it's because bacteria have multiplied and enlarged them.

The PerioLase® laser can be directed into the pockets where bacteria have built up, and vaporize them, along with their excretions. Ultrasound and special hand tools can also be used to remove tartar on the tooth's root. Then the laser sterilizes and seals off the cleaned gum tissue, thus preventing any bleeding or future infection.

This treatment takes up to about two hours and there is no pain or swelling to deal with. Afterwards, the gums are able to grow back closely around the teeth and hold them strongly in position.

We also have a Diode laser, which works well on gum tissue, whether for treating gum disease or for gum re-contouring, which can be part of a smile makeover.
